Sampling in Logic 8 (added 27.06.08)

Load the sampler by double clicking on the input button on the blue channel strip which has the name of the sampler on it.

Click the edit button on the sampler to open the instrument editor window of the sampler.

Click 'instrument' and select 'new' to add a new instrument.

Name the new instrument just created by clicking ‘instrument’ again and selecting ‘save as’.

The new instrument is saved in the ‘sampling instruments’ folder. The name of the instrument will then appear in the instrument window on the sampler. Create a new zone for the instrument by clicking ‘zone’ and selecting ‘new zone’.

Other instruments can be selected by clicking and holding on the instrument window on the sampler and making a selection.

Add an audio file to the zone by clicking the downward arrow in the space under the column headed Audio File Name and then selecting ‘load audio sample’. Locate the file by browsing and then selecting it.

In this example the key note was left as C3 and the key range was adjusted so that the sample could be played on a smal section of the controller keyboard. The key range is shown by a grey bar above the keyboard in the picture below.

A midi part can now be recorded by playing the sample on the keyboard and recording the midi instructions that control the output of the sampler.
